5 Months Today!

It's crazy how the pregnancy went so so slow! It felt like an eternity. And now that Lyla is born I can't believe it has actually been 5 months. It feels like yesterday So just wanted to show a couple pictures to show you my progress and my journey. First picture is me 2 weeks before I gave birth, I know I was extremely huge! Pretty embarrasing picture. Pic 2 is 1 month later, still sore from C-section. Pic 3 Two and half months postpartum. Pic 4 Today at 5 months, I am at least 6 pounds lighter from pic 3 to pic 4. Pic 5 is today doing a pistol. Have to admit I did not train at all for the pistols. If I wanted to be able to do more than one I would need to start training. So I guess my body just remembers after not doing them for a year.

You look amazing! You look better at the one month mark than I do right now - and my youngest is almost three! I think my grace period of referring to it was 'baby weight' has run out!

Christine,

I can't imagine how tough it must be juggling 3 kids and trying to stick to a very healthy nutrition program. You have to worry about feeding 3 little mouths. I know it would take some serious planning on your part to follow a clean diet. Thank you for the compliment, but having only 1 kid gives me a little more time to plan my meals. Also, this is what I do for a living so I have a bit of an edge!

I know you can do it though! I saw some of your workouts in your blog and it shows you have the motivation and the determination!

Take care 8-)

It helps when you weigh nothing, LOL. Kidding aside you look awesome!

How do you think your training helped with your c-section recovery?

I think I've mentioned before that I might have some surgery coming up this next year and my main concern is recovery time. Having to take time off from training is going to be difficult mentally.

Tracy,

If it weren't for the type of training that we do, I don't think I would have recovered as fast as I did. I would have to say, it is a huge challenge to face to not be able to move around and workout. Although taking time off training is difficult, I feel it was nice to relax my body, to come back refreshed and even more motivated.

I am not sure I remember you mentioning that you were going to have surgery. If so, how long did the docs say you will be out for? Walking became my best friend until I was given the "okay" to do more. Hopefully you will be fine with just doing walking as well.

Oh and thank you!

Potentially 2 months! Walking will be OK after 2 weeks, thank goodness walking is one of my favs!

nice job Lauren! You look great!

Tracy,

Walking definitely is awesome if you choose the right places and have some good music. Those 2 months should hopefully fly by for you!

Franz,

Thank you very much!

Sara,

i felt I had no choice but to prove to myself that I could do it. Along the way I met many mom's who would complain and say your body will never be the same after being pregnant. bla bla bla. It was definitely a fear that I had, since I have never been through this before.

I just hope I have the same determination for when it's time to do this a second time around! I'm so glad this is able to inspire people and take the fear out of becoming pregnant. Thanks again!!

Lauren, you look amazing. What you called embarassing is really, truly beautiful! I'm so impressed! We're about the same height and build and I gained nearly 40 pounds during my pregnancy and lost it all within three months, but I had never been anywhere near your level of physique before anyway. Now I'm much closer to that (but you already have me beat at this point). It's been three years since I had my baby but I've changed everything about the way I eat (lower-carb, higher protein, more organic) and train (mix of kettlebells & weights). I hope I can be as fit as you next time around! Just wanted you to know that you have another fan reading & cheering you on!

I saw your blog linked on Tracy's. I must say you look amazing!!!!! You are such an inspiration!! Would you mind sharing what you eat in a day? We weigh the same, but I definitely do not look ripped like you do. Thanks for the inspiring pics!

Kristin,

I appreciate the support. Sounds like you are on the right path with your nutrition and kettlebells. Losing 40 pounds in 3 months is a wonderful achievement!

Anonymous,

You are very welcome for posting the pics! There is a sample nutrition program that I typically use for myself. Under this link http://www.ontheedgefitness.com/articles.html If you click on the article I wrote "How to begin a Fat Loss Regime" it's shows the basic program I follow. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any question.

It's anonymous, again. :-) Thanks for your reply! I looked at the article you wrote on fat loss nutrition. I do have one question. I hope I'm not imposing, but is there a reason you have two scoops of whey protein with your first meal? I workout after I eat dinner and try to have 1-2 scoops of whey after kettlebell training or HIIT. Should I switch your meal plan around to accommodate my training schedule? Thank you so much!
Lauren Brooks said…
Anonymous,

Having the 1-2 scoops of protein with your first meal is just a suggestion. As stated in the article it is an exchange program. Meaning it could be exchanged with egg whites, grilled chicken, or some type of protein. I feel it's important to have a protein along with your complex carb in the morning to be a balanced meal.

This sample program is only a suggestion and may not be for everyone. I provided it as a guide for people to follow if they choose. If what you are doing is not currently working for you, then feel free to try a different approach such as the program I posted. Everyone is different and some people don't even eat breakfast.

Hope this helps!

What Doctor's don't tell you after a C-section

I have now been through 2 C-sections since writing this blog post and thankfully I've recovered beautifully from both with the appropriate progressions. For those who are new and are just finding me. WELCOME! First let me say I did NOT want a C-section. I did everything in my power to avoid the first and even the second. I'm a kettlebell fitness strength and conditioning coach who relies on her body to share, teach, educate, and I was under the impression that having to give birth via C-section would and could destroy my body and career. Boy was I wrong! If you're feeing the same way, start by reading this article I wrote many years ago that still applies today! Many people have asked and here is part of my experience.  I don't claim to be a medical expert but not only have I successfully healed my C-section, my abdominals are no longer numb, and I've successfully helped others who've had multiple C-sections (even some 20 years ago) find their core aga
